Nowadays, this tradition has evolved into a special occasion experience, which, in my opinion, makes it even more enjoyable. This restaurant provides all-day dining, giving you the opportunity to sample a variety of popular British dishes. Moreover, they cater to a diverse palette with a range of vegetarian and vegan options available.

Afternoon tea, typically served around 4 pm, consists of hot beverages like tea and coffee, an assortment of sandwiches, scones, cakes, and other sweet pastries. It’s a social occasion where people gather, sip on their tea, savour a scone, and engage in lively conversations. Quite a delightful way to spend an afternoon, don’t you think?
Afternoon Tea at The Ivy
I had the pleasure of experiencing afternoon tea at The Ivy on a bustling Saturday afternoon. As I walked in, I was immediately struck by the energetic atmosphere of the place, brimming with people. The interior design of the restaurant is quite the spectacle – it’s fresh, colourful, and theatrical, much like a scene out of a vibrant play. The space is aesthetically pleasing and undoubtedly Instagram-worthy.
The visual delight extended to the presentation of the afternoon tea itself. The tray bearing cakes and sandwiches was nicely arranged and as for the taste, it was equally impressive. This indulgence comes at a price of £29.75, and for an additional £10, you can top it off with a glass of champagne.
Overall, I enjoyed the experience, but from a personal perspective, I found the assortment a bit too skewed towards sweet items. I would have preferred a greater balance with more savoury options. Given the high sugar content, I was unable to sample all the cakes, but the ones I did try were lovely. I’d rate the afternoon tea at The Ivy on the Square a solid 6 out of 10. I adored the vibe, the interior, the tasty food, and the attentiveness of the staff. However, I found the environment slightly noisy for my preference, although I suppose that’s to be expected on a busy Saturday afternoon.
